Göcek

Going westward from Fethiye, you catch a glimpse of the sea beyond the pine trees. At Göcek, which a natural marina, the brotherhood of the sea causes yacht-lovers, speaking different languages and living in various countries, to get together. Göcek is a port where a cup of coffee is shared at the neighbouring schooner and where warmest friendships are established. The blue colour of freedom along the shores of Göcek in the Bay of Fethiye reminds you of the lines from poet Orhan Veli...

                                                           Become a sail

                                                           Become an oar

                                                          Become a rudder

Go as far as you can...

Göcek and its vicinity were named as Daidalos during the antique period. The name is believed to have been derived from architect Daidalos who created Ikarus, the first human being to fly in mythology. In the historical records of Strabo and Heredot, Daidalos is mentioned as a Lycian port. Unfortunately, not much is left standing from this city, which was completely demolished during the earthquakes in antique times. The temple-type rock tomb at the exit of the Inlice Village, at the 25th kilometre on the Fethiye-Muğla Highway, is indicative of the boundaries of this city.

The coves and islands around Göcek within the Fethiye Bay offer a pleasurable trip into nature and history to the blue-voyagers. These islands and coves with historical ruins are sources of inspiration to artists. The Taşyaka Cove with the fish painted on a rock by painter and poet Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, the sunken bath dedicated to the Egyptian queen Cleopatra at the Manastır Cove, the summer and winter harbours at the Tersane Island, the Kapı-Göbün Cove, Sarsala, Boynuzbükü, Yassıca Islands, Göcek Island and others are some of the beautiful sights worth seeing within the Fethiye Bay...

Göcek is only 25 kilometres from the Dalaman Airport. It is the closest tourism centre to the airport...Due to this; it is an ideal choice for a weekend. It is possible to benefit from the services of accommodations and boarding houses of various standards throughout the year. The warm-hearted and hospitable habitants of Göcek await whoever wishes to discover Fethiye and its surroundings either by land or by sea.
